Survival by Gabriel Lyster (2008)

The night can be long when you're lonley
The night can be sad when you're low
The night can be yours for the taking
So take it and let your love grow.

So where are you now that it's morning?
Have you let something else pass you by?
What are your plans for the future?
Have you still got that light in your eye?

It's time to come into the real world
For how will you know when to cry?
Try to catch up on your life
When is your heart going to die?

Gabriel Lyster is a member of a poetry circle named the 'Mullingar Scribblers', who meet weekly.
He wrote this poem following a heart operation which added a new perspective to his world view.
Gabriel lives in Mullingar, Ireland.
